Keeping it new
Around this time, every year, I have the privilege of demonstrating the trumpet in middle school classrooms. For most of the kids, its their first time hearing a trumpet in person and its always VERY cool to see their reactions as I play.
This is a good time to remember WHY we play our instruments: Someone inspired us to do so! We loved the sound of the instrument and we couldn't wait to try it ourselves.
So today when you practice, remember that feeling-revel in the mundane of what we do. To someone else the simplest things we do are magic.
And while I'm still on this tangent, I want to remind myself that we have an opportunity to change peoples lives when we play AND when we teach. Make these interactions precious-You never know whose world you might forever change.
